COBA MAYAN RUINS

These Tulum Ruins are set the in jungle, making you feel like you've entered an Indiana Jones movie.

These ruins are unique as you are able to climb to the top of Nohoch Mul Pyramid, the tallest standing Mayan structure; at 137 feet. The climb is definitely not for the weak at heart as you have to climb up 120 very steep stone steps. This steep pyramid can be a scary climb & descent for some, but it’s definitely worth the jungle views once you get to the top. If you need some help there is a rope in the center of the pyramid to hold on to. The reason we decided to visit the Coba Mayan ruins was because it’s one of the last Mayan ruins sites where you can actually climb to the top.
These ruins are also unique because they are located in the jungle surrounded by thick, lush vegetation. This ruin site is very large, so we rented bikes to be able to more easily see the entire site. We covered the whole property in about an hour and a half and we were thankful to have the bicycles. These ruins cover a lot more ground than the Chichen Itza or Tulum ruins, so be prepared to either rent a bike, or spend a lot of time walking. Don’t want to ride a bike and don’t feel like walking? There are dozens of pedicabs located throughout these ruins and for a fee you can have someone bicycle you around.

Getting to the Coba ruins was very easy as it was about an hour drive from Tulum. On site parking was free, and when we arrived there were tons of spaces available since we arrived right when they opened.
