TOP TEN REASONS TO VISIT BALI

I fell in love with Bali because of the immense natural beauty and the interesting Balinese culture.

My partner and I planned a trip to Bali for Christmas as a relaxing getaway; a place to chill by the beach and do some scuba diving on the side. We had seen so many gorgeous photos and heard how wonderful Bali was, but our only expectations going on this trip were beautiful beaches and good weather.
“I planned a trip to Bali to see the gorgeous beaches and experience the wonderful diving; however I got a lot more than I bargained for as I fell in love with the culture, the people and the food.”

We fell in love with Bali for so many more reasons than just their beaches and sea life. We were blown away by the Balinese culture and all of the natural beauty on this stunning island.

Previous to visiting Bali, my favourite place on earth was Thailand. Years ago when I visited Thailand I fell in love with this country because of the stunning landscape and the amazing people. Bali reminds me a lot of Thailand, however it is also very different. While the landscapes are stunning and the people are incredibly warm and welcoming in both places, Bali’s rich culture really makes it stand out for me.

If you are considering a trip to Bali, here are my top ten reasons why you should definitely go:

1. Balinese Culture

Bali has its own unique culture which differs from the culture in other parts of Indonesia. Their culture is rich with family, religion, art, and so much more. During our trip we saw Balinese people giving their daily offerings every single morning, and it was so beautiful. Throughout our trip we came across over a dozen religious ceremonies which were gorgeous and unexpected. The most unique thing we found was that the Balinese people we met were not only warm and welcoming, but many of them said to us “Thank you for visiting Bali.” This is something I have never come across in any other country, and it made me feel genuinely welcome to explore beautiful Bali. The art, the music, the values- it is all so beautiful and it’s something you have to experience to truly appreciate.

2. The Beaches

Bali has some of the most stunning beaches, you just have to know how to find them. Sure, there are some areas that are absolutely flooded with tourists and I highly recommend you stay away from those areas. However, if you can find your way a little off the beaten path you will find some spectacular beaches. My favourites were Bingin Beach & the beaches on Nusa Lembongan.

3. The Scuba Diving

Diving in Bali really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, as I was able to get up close and personal to some really large, spectacular Manta Rays. These stunning creatures are hard to find, however there is a cleaning station near Nusa Penida where you can spot them during most months of the year.

4. Ubud

Ubud is easily one of my favourite cities in the world. This little city offers amazing food, awesome boutiques, tons of locally-made art, temples and even rice terraces. It’s such a little but diverse, bustling city and you could spend days wandering around and exploring this little town

5. Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida

These small islands are located about 40 minutes off the main island of Bali, and are easily accessible by ferry. We spent most of our time on Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, and found both of these small islands to be spectacular. They are very small islands so they are easy to get around and explore via a scooter. The water here is crystal clear turquoise and there are tons of amazing beaches without many people on them.

6. The Rice Terraces

I know it seems like a strange thing to go and see rice terraces, however you will be surprised how breathtaking seeing these expansive terraces can be. They really are beautiful and are worth checking out.

7. Temples

Bali has so many stunning temples, I can’t even imagine what the total number of temples in Bali is. While you’ll never be able to see them all, it’s worth going to check out some of the most popular ones.

8. Shopping

I am not one to shop while on vacation, however in Bali I found myself wanting to shop day in and day out. There are so many amazing shops runs by locals who make everything themselves, so I was able to find some spectacular handmade goods that I wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else in the world.

9. Treat Yo Self

Another awesome reason to come to Bali is that there are tons of really high-end, amazing hotels all over this island and in all different price ranges. You can stay at some of the most amazing hotels in the world and all while sticking to your budget.

10. The Food

Finally, the food deserves an honorable mention. When I started planning this trip I didn’t think food would be a highlight but I was so wrong. Food in Bali has a focus on fresh, natural ingredients and everything is homemade. The food was especially good in ubud because it’s a melting pot of people from all around the world; so we found a great french bakery, an amazing gelato shop and of course some tasty Indo shops.
