This gorgeous boutique hotel overlooks stunning rice terraces and is only 15 minutes from downtown Ubud.

Calma Ubud is something special because they have found a way to have an eco-chic property that is equally chic as it is eco. It’s a gorgeous hotel with all the amenities you would ever need, located in a small village, overlooking a rice terrace. It was absolute heaven.

We loved this property because it was pristine and offered everything we needed; from delicious dining to amazing massages right next to a babbling brook. It’s also very convenient as it’s only a ten minute scooter ride to downtown Ubud. They also offer a shuttle into town if you aren’t keen on riding a scooter. First impressions at this property were that the staff was lovely and attentive, and the rooms were spotless, comfortable, and large. We opted for a room with an outdoor bathroom and a large tub, and we absolutely loved it. It’s such a relaxing experience to be able to take a bath with the sounds of nature around you. While I was taking a bath, a lizard even came over to say hello!

The main highlight of Calma is the gorgeous pool overlooking the rice terraces. I have never stayed anywhere with a view like this one before; and it was very relaxing to be surrounding by such gorgeous rice fields.

We also loved that this hotel had a very chill, relaxed vibe. While this hotel has several rooms, there was never more than one other couple either at the restaurant or at the pool, so the property felt very exclusive.

Every morning we had an included breakfast that was tasty with impeccable service. Both mornings we got the basic breakfast which was eggs, toast, tomato & mushrooms, juice and coffee. It was the perfect amount to get the day started. There was also a daily complimentary tea served which we really enjoyed. At 3 PM they brought us a lovely tray to the pool with tea and biscuits. We also has dinner at the restaurant our first night in, and the food was tasty with lovely service. We were also happy that the prices weren’t much higher than off-site offerings.

During our visit we splurged and decided to try out the spa at Calma, and I am so happy we did. My partner and I both got 1 hour long Balinese relaxation massages and we thought that they were some of the best massages we had ever received. The massages were given outside right next to a babbling brook. So, we were able to get our massages with the real sounds of nature versus the ones that most spas simulate; so that was very unique.

Overall, we had a lovely time here and would highly recommend it. It’s well worth the splurge, and I would say the value for the cost of this hotel is very high. While it’s a mid-range priced hotel, it offers 5 star quality.
