SAL’S SECRET SPOT

A small boutique hotel with eco-chic decor and stunning views.

Sal’s Secret Spot is an adorable, locally run boutique hotel located in Pecatu, which is a small village right next to Uluwatu. What initially drew me to Sal’s was their eco-chic, bohemian decor and their quiet location. We really enjoyed our stay here, and the highlights of our stay were views and the staff.
Our trip to Bali started off with a very delayed flight, making our arrival time into Bali 3:30 AM. I emailed the staff at Sal’s letting them know we would be arriving much later than possible, and without any hesitation they had a staff member wait on site for us to let us into our room. From there on, every whim was taken care of for us; whether it be the included breakfast in our room or a golf cart ride between their locations, everything was taken care of for us with ease.
“Out of all of the properties we visited in Bali, this one offered the most spectacular views of the beach.”
- Lindsey Farrah
The actual property itself is so unique and beautiful. I am in love with eco-chic, bohemian style decor so I could not get enough of it. There are locally made statues throughout the property that are carved from wood, and gorgeous, locally made tables as well as other unique accents throughout the entire property. Sal’s was deco heaven for me and I got a ton of inspiration from this property.
Something unique about Sal’s is that it’s actually divided into two seperate locations. The main property of this hotel is where the reception, main restaurant, pool, and several cottages are located. This part of the property is about a 10 minute golf cart ride and then a 10 minute walk down some crazy stairs to the second location, which is right on Bingin Beach. So, if the beach if your main interest be sure to book a room at their beach location.
However, if you are planning to spend a lot of time by the pool, then I would recommend staying at the main property so you can enjoy the 2 level infinity pool which is surrounded by very comfortable loungers.

We decided to stay at the beach property which is located on an amazing cliff overlooking Bingin Beach. The views really are so stunning! We had a simple but gorgeously decorated room with a shared deck overlooking the beach. It was incredible. I do need to say that the stairs to get up and down to the rooms at this location are very very steep wooden stairs. I don’t think it’s realistic for everyone to be able to make it up and down the stairs; so if you aren’t 100% mobile then I would suggest another property. For me personally, I have found that some of the most gorgeous things in life are the hardest to get to, so I thought that the view was well worth the bike & steep stairs.
We were able to book this property on Agoda with a rate that included breakfast, which was served either on our front patio overlooking the water or in their gorgeous little dining room which also offered spectacular views. Most mornings we had our breakfast in their dining room so we could socialise with the staff and also make use of their comfortable daybed.

Pecatu was a great location for us to start our trip. It’s very accessible to get to Uluwatu and the surrounding areas by scooter, and it’s a pretty quiet area without tons of tourists. Read about Pecatu here and check out my post about getting around Bali by scooter here.

All in all, I would definitely recommend checking out this property for a night or two during your travels through Bali. Check out my top pros & cons below.

Pros

Loved the decor, the staff was attentive, the views were unparalleled, breakfast was lovely, great location.

Cons

Not easily accessible for everyone due to steep stairs up to room and the steep hike down stairs to get to and from the property, toilet would not flush for 2 days, a bit overpriced for the area.
