Every cenote is unique and different. This one is quickly and easily accessible from Tulum.
During our trip to Mexico we visited several cenotes (read about them all here). However, Gran Cenote was one of our favourites due to the crystal clear blue water and unique wildlife.
Gran Cenote is not as far below ground level as some of the other cenotes that we visited, however the crystal clear blue water leads you through a stunning cave system with stalactites and stalagmites. This is the only cenote we swam deep into to check out the cave system, and it was pretty spectacular.
The most interesting thing about this cave system was snorkeling with fish swimming below me, while bats flew above me. There are also a ton of tiny turtles that live in this cenote and they are actively swimming around. You get a unique mix of wildlife that is bot mesmerizing and a little scary (bats! haha).
If you are into scuba diving like I am, you can also dive Gran Cenote and explore the depths of the cave. Another thing to note about this cenote is that it’s very accessible from Tulum and is only a 10 minute drive away, making it one of the most convenient cenotes we visited during our trip in Mexico.
