MAN O’ WAR VINEYARD

This is my favourite vineyard on Waiheke Island because it’s a place where two of my favourite things meet; wine and the beach.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to visit Napa, Sonoma, the Yarra Valley and some other gorgeous wine regions. Something about wandering around vineyards is so enjoyable and I also love sampling a glass or two. What makes Waiheke so unique and interesting is that the vineyards have stunning views of the crystal-clear blue waters that surround Waiheke Island.
Out of all the vineyards we visited, Man O’ War really stood out to me because it’s the first vineyard i’ve ever been to with a beach front tasting room. They have tons of property on Waiheke which includes rolling hills of vines that meet the sea.
“Man O’ War is my favourite vineyard on Waiheke not only because of its unique location on the beach, but also because of the ambiance it offers with the food truck and the free tastings.”

This stunning vineyard is located off the beaten path, as it’s the furthest location possible from the ferry on the island. However, I highly recommend you rent a car and head here. (Read my post about renting a car on Waiheke here). The drive was about 40 minutes through rolling green hills of cattle and sheep. Once we arrived we found the tasting room was located on a grassy, beach-front property. They offer free tastings (3 per person) which we found not many vineyards on the island offered, so we were happy to sample their wines. We did a tasting with the lovely staff and had some of the best wines here that we tasted during our trip. My partner claims the cabernet sauvignon was one of the best cabs he had ever had, so the lovely bartender shared a list of stores we can purchase it near Melbourne.
Man O’ War is a great place to come for lunch as they have two dining options; either order from their restaurant or there is also a food truck on site. We ordered from the restaurant and had the charcuterie plate which was really nice. The food truck offers Mexican inspired dishes and was very popular, however we didn’t get to try it because it was cash only. They have gorgeous tables spread across the lawn, all with stunning waterfront views.
I had a glass of rose her which was wonderful, and my partner got a glass of their delicious cabernet sauvignon. All in all, this was a gorgeous property with the perfect vibe for a relaxing Saturday. It’s a must visit while on Waiheke Island.
